Are Homecoming Dresses Generally Short or Long?

Finding the perfect homecoming dress can be a challenge because it is hard to decide how formal the event and what everyone else is going to wear this year. You don't want to be underdressed, but you also do not want to be the girl that looks as if she is attending a red carpet event. This year I have seen both styles, short and long. So the question remains, how do you know which to choose? My advice is to go with the dress that you find most comfortable. Every girl has that perfect feeling when finding the perfect dress for whatever the event, so when you find it, whether it is short or long go with it. There are always choices when it comes to accessories, hair, make-up, and shoes that will allow you to alter your look in order to fit in for the event.

If you choose short

If you find the perfect short dress for homecoming, but you are questioning whether or not it is dressy enough, have your hair done in an up-do. When your hair is in an up-do you automatically look like you are attending a more formal event. And, you do not need to choose a fancy up-do; a simple up-do will also do the trick. Choose a pair of strappy stilettos in order to dress up your look. As for jewelry, rhinestone earrings, pearls, or drop earrings are a great way to add extra glamor to your dress.

If you choose long

However, if you find a spectacular long dress, but feel you are over the top leave your hair down, or wear it half up. This will create a not so formal look and will take some attention off the fact that you chose to wear a long dress for this event if everyone else decided to wear short. If you feel your long dress is still too formal top it off with a pair of flats. Heels always portray a dressier look, and trendy flats will dress it down. Plus you will have the added bonus of your feet not killing you by the end of the night. Also, you can tone down the jewelry. Go with a simple chain necklace rather than fancy pearls, and you will also not be so formal.

Watch out for Homecoming No's

When you buy a short dress make sure it is not too short. A dress that falls right above the knee is as short as you should go. Also, with homecoming dresses (short or long) you want to still look classy. Showing too much skin is not pretty in any way. Especially since homecoming dresses generally range for ages 14-18. You do not want to be the girl everyone is talking about because you did not have enough fabric with your dress. Also, there is such thing as over accessorizing. Keep it simple, but glamorous. Add accessories, but do not think that more is better or that adding accessories is more formal. When you find a great dress show it off and do not hide it behind too many accessories.
