Shoes are as important as the dress we wear. No matter how perfect the dress looks you have spoiled the image if the shoes are not right. Shopping for a perfect pair of shoes should be done right along with shopping for the dress. If you have the dress with you, you can't go wrong.
How Do You Choose The Shoes?
If the evening is going to be long you will want to select shoes that are comfortable and go with your gown. Comfortable is very important.
With so many shoes to choose from how do you select just the right pair? You can choose among stilettos, wedges, platforms, open toe, closed toe, or sandals. There are a number of other shoes but I'm sure we agree that sneakers or mules are not suitable for evening wear.
Have your dress with you when you are shopping for shoes, if you cannot have the dress with you, have a piece of fabric that matches the dress so you can select a pair of shoes with a color that will go with the dress. It is no longer in style to wear shoes that exactly match the color of your dress. If you are shorter your dress will probably cover the shoes. In this instance it will be wise to buy a neutral color of shoes.
Choosing A Style
Shoes have gone in and out of fashion just as other attire has gone in and out. We saw pointed toe shoes and then they were out. We saw open toe shoes and then they were out. We saw soles one and two inches high and then the next season the soles were flat again. Now, if you notice the style depends on where you shop. Maybe the designers are playing it safe because you can find almost any style you like in the larger shoe stores. If a style looks good on you and you like it you will probably find it.
Know The Season Of The Function
If the function you are going to attend is in the spring or summer you will be able to select an espadrille or sandal. The heel height should be comfortable for you to wear during the entire evening. If the day or evening is hot your feet may swell. Take this into consideration when selecting your shoes. Sandals may be just the thing if you think your feet may become swollen to a larger size.
If the occasion you are attending is in the fall or winter you can select a darker color shoe with a closed toe. You will want to match your dress color but will want to wear a more substantial shoe than a sandal. A holiday occasion allows you to select shoes with some sparkle.
Shoes That Flatter Your Foot
Pointed toed shoes elongate your foot and give your legs a longer slimmer look. Your toes do not go to the end of the shoe so you may be comfortable wearing them. Thinner heels make your legs look thinner. Wider heels are not as flattering.
If you have shopped carefully your shoes will be comfortable and you will be thinking about your date and not your sore feet.
