The evening gown of today is constructed from fabrics that are versatile and light. The care of an evening gown does not compare with a Victorian gown. The fabrics used can range from fine leather to polyester blends. There is a range of colors from pure white to black and from bright pastels to deep hues of any color you can think of. The aim is to make it possible for the modern woman to have a gorgeous dress in her wardrobe that is affordable and needs minimal care.
Another factor that has changed the business of sewing evening gowns is the need for a modern woman to walk into a store and purchase a garment off the rack. Few women in our society today have time, nor the income, to visit a dressmaker, select a design, and have a dress made exclusively for them. The cost is much too prohibitive and few women have the time.
With the mass production of dress making manufacturers are putting dresses on store racks and that is enabling them to price garments within the reach of nearly all of those shopping for a gown. The days of contracting with a dressmaker to sew each dress are gone.

They say spending money on evening dresses is also worthwhile because you only get to wear them for a few occasions, so might as well get the best that you can. But there are a lot of shops nowadays that sell dresses at significantly lower prices. Anyways, it's up to them to decide, but just the same, they should spend it wisely. If they feel that they can reuse the dress for another time, then might as well invest some on it.
